New Titles

New Title: Government Lawyering

Every so often, a new book is published that seems like it was made for expressly for people in this library. When I was looking at new titles from LexisNexis, this one jumped out at me as something I needed to buy for us. If there’s a large population of lawyers anywhere that might be making the move into government, or are there already, Ottawa is it!

Government Lawyering: Duties and Ethical Challenges of Government Lawyers came out at the end of September, and will be available on our shelves soon. As far as I know, this is the only book specifically on this topic, so make sure to check it out!

New Edition Alert: Sopinka and Gelowitz on the Conduct of an Appeal, 4th Edition

“Conduct of an Appeal” has been a favourite at this library over the years. So much so that our copies often go missing! When the 4th edition was announced I decided to be proactive and just order two. I hope I won’t need two, but we always have in the past! Better safe than sorry.

Conduct of an Appeal, 4th edition

We’re processing this book right now, but you’ll be able to find it both in Texts and in the Reserve section (at KF 9058 .ZA2 S66 2018) when we’re done. If you’d like to look at it before then, just ask at the front counter!

New Titles from The Advocacy Club

Recently, John Hollander was so kind as to stop by the library with copies of these three titles for our collection. Many of you know of The Advocacy Club, which has been instructing new lawyers in advocacy skills for over ten years now. These three volumes make up a series of books from the Advocacy Club, and we think they’ll be popular with our students and new lawyers.

The three titles are:

  • Trial Advocacy: How Canadian Lawyers Prepare For and Conduct Civil Cases
  • Outlining: How to Structure Examinations in Civil Litigation
  • Estate Litigation: Trial Advocacy Techniques in Canadian Estate Cases

These are currently in process at the library, but please let us know if you’d like to see them and we’ll be happy to get them for you.
