I’m an articling student trying to learn on how to use free resources, like canlii. I found it challenging to use, especially – how do you find the history of the case? i’m being asked to do research but the law firm has no resources. No commercial databases available. i’m left to my own devices. Apparently, Quicklaw and Westlaw are too expensive and not all law firms have them, relying on Canlii and their prior legal knowledge. It seems the issues they deal with are similar and they reuse the previous case law in procedural documents. its my guess cause I’m only beginning to practice.
