We are happy to announce that LiRN just released a new live chat service called Reference LiNK. Through this service, you can instantly connect with experienced courthouse law library staff from across Ontario through the LiRN Network. Accessible by browser, email, or text message, it offers trusted resources and responsive research support. You can use it wherever you are and it is staffed Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

You can use it if you need reference and research assistance. The library staff on Reference LiNK can help with:

  • Finding legislation, cases, commentary, and other legal information resources.
  • Performing specific legal-research tasks like noting up citations, tracing legislative history, researching legislative intent, and providing useful precedents and forms.
  • Suggesting search strategies and research tools.
  • Locating library materials and publicly available legal information.
  • Referring you to additional resources and services that may be helpful.
  • Providing assistance with the access to and use of legal research products (such as Lexis+, Westlaw, and more).

Here’s a quick video that explains how it works: Introducing Reference LiNK: Your Courthouse Library, Online. If you have any question, feel free to contact them or check out their FAQ.

Reference LiNK is a collaborative service of courthouse libraries across Ontario, coordinated by the Legal Information and Resource Network (LiRN) and made possible through funding from The Law Foundation of Ontario.
